Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups cornmeal
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl until well combined.
  2. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into hot oil.
  3. Cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per batch.
  4. When done, hushpuppies will float to the surface.
  5. Remove from oil and drain on absorbent paper.
