Indian tortillas are soft, whole wheat flatbreads with a slightly chewy texture, perfect for wrapping or serving with curries and dips, suitable for both casual and festive meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups white flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon shortening or lard
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • water or milk

Instructions

  1. Mix both flours, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Work in shortening or lard thoroughly.
  3. Add water or milk gradually to make a stiff dough.
  4. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until springy.
  5. Divide the dough into small balls.
  6. Roll each ball until round and flat.
