Ingredients

  • 2 2/3 cups cake flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Mix vanilla into the milk.
  4. Sift together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and vanilla milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients, mixing after each addition.
  6. Pour the batter into two greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow cakes to cool before frosting or serving.
