  4. Pour about 1 inch of cooking oil into a skillet and heat to Medium-High.

  9. Spread a thin layer of spaghetti sauce in the bottom of a 9x18-inch casserole dish.
  10. Place the cooked chicken breasts in the casserole dish and cover 1/2 to 3/4 up with spaghetti sauce.

  12. Bake covered at 375°F for 45-50 minutes.

Tips & Substitutions

For a lighter version, you can bake the chicken instead of frying it. Substitute breadcrumbs for flour to add extra crunch. If you prefer a spicier kick, consider adding red pepper flakes to the spaghetti sauce. You can also use a gluten-free flour for coating if needed. For an additional flavor boost, marinate the chicken in Italian seasoning and lemon juice beforehand.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Italian Chicken Diane with a side of garlic bread or a fresh garden salad for a complete meal. It pairs beautifully with Spaghetti Aglio e Olio for a classic Italian touch. For a heartier option, consider serving it with roasted vegetables or alongside Pasta With Daylily Buds And Mushrooms for a delightful combination.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the chicken and sauce in a baking dish, cover with foil, and warm in a preheated oven at 350°F until heated through, about 20-25 minutes. This helps maintain moisture and flavor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use chicken thighs instead of breasts?

Yes, chicken thighs can be used instead of breasts for a juicier result. They will require a similar cooking time, but keep an eye on them to ensure they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.

What can I substitute for mozzarella cheese?

If you don't have mozzarella, you can use provolone or fontina cheese for a similar melting quality. For a dairy-free option, consider using a plant-based mozzarella alternative.

Can I prepare this dish in advance?

Absolutely! You can prepare the chicken and assemble the casserole in advance. Just cover it tightly and refrigerate. When ready to bake, allow it to come to room temperature before placing it in the oven, and adjust the baking time accordingly.
