Tips & Substitutions
For extra flavor, consider adding parmesan cheese or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes to the filling. If you don't have yellow squash or zucchini, bell peppers can be a great substitute. Ensure to steam the squash just until tender; overcooking can make them too soft to hold the filling. You can also use fresh herbs instead of dried for a more vibrant taste.
Serving Suggestions
These Italian Squash Bites make a delightful appetizer or side dish, especially when paired with a fresh salad or served alongside Pasta With Fresh Basil Sauce (Uncooked). For a heartier meal, serve them with grilled chicken or fish. They also work well as a light snack or part of a buffet spread, making them versatile for any occasion.
Storage & Reheating
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the squash bites in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes until warmed through. Alternatively, you can microwave them for 1-2 minutes on medium heat, but oven reheating will maintain their crispness better.
