Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 8 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 2 or 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Cut shortening into flour, salt, and baking powder until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Beat eggs and add enough buttermilk to make 1 1/2 cups of liquid.
  3. Pour the liquid into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Knead the dough 20 times on a floured surface.
  5. Roll out the dough and cut with a round cutter.
  6. Place the cut biscuits on a greased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake in a 450°F (230°C) oven for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
