Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Cut in the vegetable shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Combine the egg, milk, and honey; stir into the flour mixture just until combined.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead 8 to 10 times.
  5. Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness.
  6. Cut with a floured 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.
  7. Place 1-inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 425°F for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm.
