Kielbasa With Kraut
A hearty and flavorful kielbasa and sauerkraut dish with sweet apples, savory bacon, and aromatic spices, perfect for comforting family meals or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup onion, chopped ⓘ
- 2 slices bacon, cut up ⓘ
- 1 cup beer ⓘ
- 1 cup water ⓘ
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch ⓘ
- 2 tablespoons coarse grain brown mustard ⓘ
- 2 tablespoons molasses ⓘ
- 2 teaspoons caraway seed ⓘ
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper ⓘ
- 1 large rutabaga, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes ⓘ
- 1 pound fully-cooked kielbasa, bias-sliced into 2 1/2 inch pieces ⓘ
- 2 medium apples, cored and cut into 8 wedges each ⓘ
Instructions
- In a Dutch oven, cook onion and bacon until the onion is tender but not browned. Drain off the fat.
- Stir in beer and cook for a minute.
- In a 2-cup glass measure, combine water, cornstarch, brown mustard, molasses, caraway seed, allspice, and pepper. Stir until smooth.
- Stir the cornstarch mixture into the bacon and onion mixture. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
- Add rutabaga to the mixture, cover, and cook for 15 minutes.
- Stir in the sliced kielbasa, apples, and kraut. Cook until heated through and flavors meld.
