Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 5 to 5 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Cream margarine and sugar together until well blended.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time until smooth.
  3. Pour in the milk and mix thoroughly.
  4. Combine baking soda, salt, and flour in a separate bowl.
  5. Gradually work the dry ingredients into the wet mixture to form a cookie dough.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and cut into strips.
  7. Shape each strip into figure 8's or knots.
  8. Place the shaped dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 10 minutes or until golden.
