Ingredients

  • 1 head lettuce
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 package frozen green peas
  • 1 can sliced watercress (optional)
  • 1 cup green onions or purple onion
  • Carrots (optional)
  • Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce
  • Tabasco sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
  • 8 ounces grated cheese

Instructions

  1. Layer the first five ingredients—lettuce, chopped celery, thawed green peas, sliced watercress (optional), and green onions—in a square or rectangular glass dish in the order given.
  2. Optionally, add a layer of grated carrots on top.
  3. Combine 1 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing with Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce or a dash of Tabasco, and 2 tablespoons sugar.
  4. Spread this dressing mixture evenly over the layered salad.
  5. Sprinkle 8 ounces of grated cheese over the top.
  6. Sprinkle Bac*Os or similar bacon-flavored bits over the cheese layer.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and refrigerate overnight before serving.
