Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup margarine, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 3/4 cup cherry preserves
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Grease and flour an 8-inch square pan.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together sugar, margarine, and egg.
  4. Stir in flour, one cup at a time.
  5. Add chopped pecans and mix well.
  6. Divide the dough into two equal balls; wrap one in plastic wrap.
  7. Press the remaining dough into the prepared pan.
  8. Spread cherry preserves over the dough, leaving about 1/2 inch from the edge.
  9. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and cinnamon evenly over the preserves.
  10. Pat out the remaining dough between plastic wrap to match the shape of the pan.
  11. Cover the preserves and chocolate layer with the remaining dough, sealing the edges.
  12. Bake until golden, about 60 minutes.
  13. Score while hot; allow to cool before cutting into bars.
