Tips & Substitutions

For a vegetarian option, substitute the beef or turkey with black beans or lentils. You can also use corn tortillas for a gluten-free version. If you want extra flavor, consider adding diced bell peppers or jalapeños to the meat mixture. To save time, you can use pre-cooked taco meat or leftovers from Coach Taylor'S Mexican Chili.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the layered tortillas with a fresh side salad or guacamole for a complete meal. Topping with lettuce, sour cream, and diced tomatoes adds freshness and texture. This dish pairs beautifully with Baked Nachos for a fun, shareable feast. Consider offering a selection of hot sauces for added flavor.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To reheat, cover with foil and warm in the oven at 350°F for about 20 minutes, or microwave individual portions until heated through. This dish also freezes well; just thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I prepare the layered tortillas in advance?

Yes, you can assemble the layered tortillas a day ahead and store them covered in the refrigerator. Just add the nacho soup before baking. This makes for an easy and convenient meal prep option.

What can I use instead of nacho soup?

If you don't have nacho soup on hand, you can substitute with a can of cream of mushroom soup mixed with some salsa for a similar flavor. Alternatively, a homemade cheese sauce can also work well.

How can I make this dish spicier?

To add more heat, mix some diced jalapeños or crushed red pepper flakes into the meat mixture. You can also use spicy taco seasoning or serve with hot peppers on the side for those who like an extra kick.
