Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp poultry seasoning or sage
  • bones and trimming from 1 turkey
  • 3 tsp chicken bouillon cubes
  • 6 c water
  • 1/2 c uncooked barley or rice
  • 3 medium carrots, sliced
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • 2 medium onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the bones and trimming from 1 turkey, salt, poultry seasoning or sage, chicken bouillon cubes, and water; simmer, covered, for 1 1/2 hours.
  2. Remove bones and cut off the meat, then return the meat to the broth.
  3. Add barley or rice, carrots, celery, and onions to the broth.
  4. Simmer, covered, for an additional 30 minutes.
