Ingredients

  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 cups dry bread or 2 cups soft bread, cut into small pieces
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 lemon juice and grated rind
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Soak bread crumbs with milk for 1/2 hour.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs, lemon juice, rind, and vanilla.
  4. Stir in the milk mixture.
  5. Pour into a 2 1/2 quart baking dish.
  6. Place the dish in a pan of hot water and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
