Ingredients

  • 6 Tbsp. flour
  • 6 Tbsp. margarine, melted
  • 2 c. sugar, divided
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 2 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 c. milk

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, melted margarine, and 1 1/2 cups sugar.
  2. Beat egg yolks and add to the flour mixture along with milk; mix well until the batter is thin.
  3. Add fresh lemon juice to the batter.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff.
  5. Gradually add 1/2 cup of sugar to the egg whites while beating.
  6. Fold the beaten egg whites into the batter gently.
  7. Pour the mixture into a greased 2-quart baking dish.
  8. Place the baking dish in a shallow pan filled with hot water.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 55 to 60 minutes until lightly browned.
  10. Serve warm or chilled.
