Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon milk
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add vanilla and lemon extract, mixing well.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating until fluffy after each addition.
  4. Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients, mixing after each addition.
