Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried lentils
  • 1/2 cup brown rice
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed

Instructions

  1. Combine lentils, salt, water, and rice in a pot; bring to a boil.
  2. Lower the heat and cover; simmer until tender, about 35 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let stand for 10 minutes.
  4. Wash the cooked lentils and rice mixture with water.
  5. Stir in bread crumbs, wheat germ, chopped onion, and celery seed.
  6. Shape the mixture into patties and roll in wheat germ.
  7. Fry the patties slowly in a well-oiled pan for about 10 minutes until golden brown.
