Ingredients

  • 1 fryer chicken, boiled, skinned, deboned, and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Broth from boiled chicken
  • 5 boiled eggs
  • 1 can Pet Milk
  • 1 stick oleo (butter)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Shortening (size of an egg)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pastry by breaking 1 egg into a cup and filling with milk to make about 1 cup of liquid.
  2. Add baking powder, shortening, and flour to the egg-milk mixture to form a stiff dough.
  3. Sift flour into a medium-sized bowl, make a well in the center, and work the ingredients together with your hands.
  4. Knead the dough until stiff enough to roll out for dumplings.
  5. Divide the dough into 3 equal parts and roll each thin.
  6. Cut each rolled-out piece into strips to form the layers of the pie.
  7. Layer the cooked chicken in a deep baking dish, then cover with a layer of dumplings, followed by more chicken, then dumplings again, and top with remaining chicken.
  8. Slice the boiled eggs into rounds and place on top of the layered ingredients.
  9. Cover the pie with a top crust made from the remaining dough.
  10. Pour hot boiling broth over the assembled pie to keep it moist.
  11. Place a stick of butter on top of the pie before baking.
  12. Bake until the crust begins to brown.
  13. Add Pet Milk over the baked pie and return to the oven to finish baking.
