Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, stir together cornstarch, flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add water and the slightly beaten egg to the dry ingredients.
  3. Stir until the batter is smooth.
  4. Optionally, add chopped basil or dill for extra flavor.
  5. Heat oil to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Dip shrimp, chicken, or vegetables into the batter and fry until golden and cooked through.
