Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups lukewarm water
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cake fresh or active dry yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups self-rising flour

Instructions

  1. Place shortening, salt, and sugar into a bowl; add water.
  2. Stir well.
  3. Stir in beaten egg and yeast; add flour all at once.
  4. Beat with a fork to make soft dough.
  5. Cover in a bowl; let rise for 1 1/2 hours.
  6. Roll out the dough and put it in a pan.
  7. Butter the top of the rolls.
  8. Bake at 400°F for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
