Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 8 c. water
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1 (12 oz.) can frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 1 (4 oz.) can frozen lemonade concentrate
  • 1 (48 oz.) can pineapple juice
  • 1/5 bottle vodka

Instructions

  1. Boil sugar and water together for 15 minutes. Let cool.
  2. In a blender, combine bananas, orange juice concentrate, and lemonade concentrate. Blend until smooth.
  3. Mix the banana-orange mixture with the cooled sugar water and vodka in a covered container.
  4. Store in the freezer until ready to serve.
  5. When serving, fill a glass halfway with the syrup mixture, then add 7-Up or Squirt, stirring as you go. The slush will not freeze solid because of the vodka.

Tips & Substitutions

For a fruitier slush, consider adding more ripe bananas or even a cup of frozen strawberries. If you prefer a lower sugar option, you can substitute the sugar with a sugar alternative like Stevia. Additionally, if you want to enhance the citrus flavor, a splash of fresh lime juice can be a nice touch. This slush can also be made with variations like a non-alcoholic version by omitting the vodka.

Serving Suggestions

This slush is perfect for summer gatherings or as a refreshing drink on a hot day. Serve it in tall glasses and garnish with fresh fruit slices or mint leaves for an appealing presentation. It pairs beautifully with light appetizers or desserts like Strawberry Filled Angel Cake. For a fun twist, try serving it at a party with a variety of soda options for guests to mix and match.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover slush in an airtight container in the freezer. It can last up to a month. To serve again, simply scoop some into a glass and let it sit for a few minutes to soften slightly before adding your soda. Avoid refreezing if you've already mixed it with soda, as it may affect the texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this slush ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the slush several days in advance. Just make sure to store it in the freezer in a covered container. When it's time to serve, simply scoop out the desired amount and mix it with your favorite soda.

What can I use instead of vodka?

If you'd prefer a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the vodka. You can enhance the flavor by adding extra fruit juice or even a splash of sparkling water for fizz. This will keep the slush refreshing without the alcohol.

Is it possible to make this slush without bananas?

Yes! If you're not a fan of bananas, you can substitute them with other fruits like mango or peaches. Just ensure that the fruit you choose is ripe for the best flavor. The slush will still be delicious with these alternatives!
