Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup plain cake flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and adjust oven rack to center position.
  2. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine sour cream, vanilla extract, melted and cooled butter, sugar, and eggs (including egg whites from 2 large eggs).
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased or parchment-lined baking pan.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool before cutting into squares and serving.
