Ingredients

  • 12 cups water
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 pound macaroni
  • 1/4 pound butter
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups milk

Instructions

  1. While macaroni is boiling, prepare the sauce by melting butter in a saucepan over moderate heat.
  2. Blend in flour and salt into the melted butter.
  3. Gradually add milk, stirring with a wooden spoon until the mixture boils and thickens.
  4. Remove the sauce from heat and combine with cooked macaroni before serving.
