Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider substituting half of the butter flavor Crisco with unsalted butter. If you prefer a different sweetness, feel free to use honey or maple syrup instead of granulated sugar. Adding chopped nuts or dried fruits can enhance the texture and taste. Ensure to use quick oats for the best consistency in these bars.

Serving Suggestions

These oatmeal bars are perfect as a quick breakfast or snack on the go. They pair beautifully with a cup of coffee or tea. For a delightful treat, serve them alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream or with a side of fresh fruit. They also complement well with Aunt Cate'S Blueberry Cake for a dessert spread.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover oatmeal bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. For longer storage, refrigerate them for up to two weeks. To reheat, place a bar in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds, or until warmed through, so they remain soft and chewy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use rolled oats instead of quick oats?

While quick oats are recommended for the best texture, you can substitute rolled oats. Just keep in mind that the bars may be a bit chewier and take longer to set. If using rolled oats, consider letting the mixture sit for a few minutes before baking to help the oats soften.

What can I use instead of apple butter?

If you don't have apple butter, you can substitute it with an equal amount of mashed bananas or unsweetened applesauce. Both options will add moisture and a hint of fruit flavor, keeping the bars deliciously moist and flavorful.

Can I freeze these oatmeal bars?

Yes, these oatmeal bars freeze well! Cut them into individual pieces and wrap each bar tightly in plastic wrap. Place them in a freezer-safe bag or container. They can be stored in the freezer for up to three months. Simply thaw at room temperature or microwave for a quick snack.
