Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons cold water
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup blackberry jam
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add beaten egg yolks and cold water; mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and soda.
  4. Add the spice-flour mixture and blackberry jam to the creamed mixture; blend thoroughly.
  5. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form and fold into the batter last.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
