Ingredients

  • 1 lb. tart, crisp cooking apples
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 2 Tbsp. maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. maple sugar or light brown sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. butter

Instructions

  1. Core apples and cut into slices about 3/4-inch thick at the widest part.
  2. Toss apples in a bowl with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  3. Place apples in a lightly buttered 9-inch pie plate.
  4. Drizzle maple syrup evenly over the apples.
  5. In a small bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar.
  6. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles a pie crust.
  7. Distribute the topping mixture evenly over the apples.
  8. Bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 30 minutes or until juices are bubbling and topping is crisp.
  9. Serve hot, warm, or at room temperature with vanilla or coffee ice cream.
