Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 3 teaspoons double action baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup maraschino juice
  • 16 cherries, cut in eighths
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt three times.
  2. Add shortening, maraschino cherry juice, chopped cherries, and milk to the dry ingredients.
  3. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Fold in 1/2 cup chopped nuts.
  5. Coat the prepared pan with shortening and flour.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes.
