Ingredients

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • dash of salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 heaping tablespoons cocoa

Instructions

  1. Cream together butter and shortening, gradually adding sugar. Continue to beat until light and fluffy.
  2. Blend in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Mix in vanilla.
  4. Prepare the batter by dividing it into two equal parts. To one part, add cocoa.
  5. Alternate spooning the plain and chocolate batter into a greased and floured loaf pan, creating a marbled effect.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool before removing from the pan and slicing.
