Tips & Substitutions

For a deeper flavor, consider toasting the almonds before adding them to the mixture. If you prefer a less sweet version, start with 1/2 cup of sugar and adjust to taste. You can substitute the Bordeaux or Zinfandel with any full-bodied red wine, or try a fruity white wine for a unique twist. This recipe can easily be adjusted for vegan diets by ensuring all ingredients are plant-based.

Serving Suggestions

Serve warm in heated mugs, garnished with a few raisins and almonds. This glogg pairs beautifully with spiced cookies or a slice of Dutch Cracked Wheat Bread for a comforting treat. For a festive touch, consider adding a cinnamon stick to each mug as a stirrer.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. To reheat, gently warm the glogg in a saucepan over low heat, avoiding boiling to preserve the flavors. You can also serve it cold over ice for a refreshing variation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this glogg in advance?

Yes, this glogg actually benefits from being made a day in advance. Allowing it to sit overnight in the refrigerator helps the flavors meld beautifully, making it even more delicious when served the next day.

What type of wine works best for this recipe?

A bold red wine like Bordeaux or Zinfandel is ideal for this recipe, as they provide a rich base for the spices. However, you can experiment with other full-bodied wines or even a sweet dessert wine if you prefer a sweeter profile.

Can I add other spices to the glogg?

Absolutely! Feel free to experiment with additional spices like ginger or nutmeg for extra warmth. Just be sure to balance the flavors, as too many spices can overpower the more subtle notes in the glogg.
