Quick and easy doughnuts with a tender crumb and subtle nutmeg flavor, perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat, suitable for family gatherings or weekend baking.

Ingredients

  • 4 c. sifted flour
  • 3 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. milk

Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine well-beaten eggs with sugar and milk.
  3. Stir the wet ingredients well.
  4. Mix the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients.
  5. Stir well, handling the dough very little.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured board.
  7. Cut the dough into doughnut shapes.
  8. Fry in hot shortening until golden brown.
  9. Turn over and brown the other side.
  10. Remove and lay on paper towels to drain.
