- Preheat oven to 425°F.
- In a medium bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt with a fork.
- Using a pastry cutter, cut in the cold butter or margarine until the mixture is crumbly.
- In a small bowl, beat the milk and egg with a fork.
- Stir the milk and egg mixture into the flour mixture just until all the flour is moistened.
- Place the dough on a lightly floured board or countertop and knead gently 5 or 6 times.
- Roll the dough into a 9-inch circle about 1/2-inch thick.
- Cut out biscuits with a biscuit cutter.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 425°F or until golden brown.
