Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter or margarine
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt with a fork.
  3. Using a pastry cutter, cut in the cold butter or margarine until the mixture is crumbly.
  4. In a small bowl, beat the milk and egg with a fork.
  5. Stir the milk and egg mixture into the flour mixture just until all the flour is moistened.
  6. Place the dough on a lightly floured board or countertop and knead gently 5 or 6 times.
  7. Roll the dough into a 9-inch circle about 1/2-inch thick.
  8. Cut out biscuits with a biscuit cutter.
  9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 425°F or until golden brown.
