Ingredients

  • 2 onions
  • 1 green pepper
  • 3 to 4 stalks celery
  • 5 eggs
  • 1.5 pt milk
  • 1 envelope Lipton beef onion soup (dry)
  • 7 lb ground beef
  • 2 Tbsp dry vegetable flakes
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 strips bacon

Instructions

  1. Place ground beef in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Finely chop onions, green pepper, and celery.
  3. Add chopped vegetables to the meat.
  4. Add all other ingredients including eggs, milk, dry soup mix, vegetable flakes, salt, and pepper.
  5. Mix thoroughly to combine, adding milk last to achieve a moist, but workable consistency.
  6. Shape the mixture into three loaves.
  7. Place a strip of bacon on top of each loaf.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  9. Serve with gravy made from pan scrapings.
