Tips & Substitutions

For a smoother texture, consider blending the mixture after cooking. You can substitute vegetable shortening for oleo if preferred. If you can't find green tomatoes, unripe tomatillos work as an alternative. Adjust the sugar to taste based on the sweetness of your apples. Adding cinnamon or allspice can enhance the flavor profile.

Serving Suggestions

This meatless mincemeat is perfect as a filling for fried pies, but it also pairs beautifully with desserts such as tarts or crumbles. Serve it alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt for added creaminess. Consider using it in breakfast dishes like pancakes or waffles for a unique twist.

Storage & Reheating

Store the cooled mincemeat in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. For longer storage, process in jars and seal tightly to keep in a cool, dark place. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave, adding a splash of water if it appears too thick.
