  • 2 small onions, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 cans green chili peppers, chopped
  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes, strained
  • 2 lb softened Velveeta cheese, melted
  • 1/4 tsp oregano
  • pinch salt

Tips & Substitutions

For a smoky flavor, consider adding a few dashes of chipotle sauce or smoked paprika. You can substitute the Velveeta with any creamy cheese like Monterey Jack or cheddar, but ensure it melts well. If you prefer a spicier dip, try adding jalapeños or your favorite hot sauce. This dip pairs beautifully with Basic Guacamole to enhance the flavor profile.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this dip warm with crispy nacho or corn chips for the ultimate snack. To elevate the dish, consider serving it alongside fresh veggies or a side of Peachy Pork Picante Over Rice. For a complete meal, pour it over a platter of tortilla chips and top with chili for an indulgent nacho feast.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When reheating, warm it slowly in a saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently until melted and creamy. You can also microwave it in short bursts, stirring in between, to avoid overheating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this dip ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the dip a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator. Just remember to reheat it gently before serving. This method allows the flavors to meld beautifully, making it even tastier.

What can I use instead of bacon?

If you prefer a vegetarian option, you can omit the bacon or replace it with cooked mushrooms or tempeh for a similar texture. You can also use smoked paprika to add a hint of smokiness without the meat.

Can I make this dip spicier?

Absolutely! To increase the heat level, add diced jalapeños or a few spoonfuls of your favorite hot sauce. You can also mix in some crushed red pepper flakes for an extra kick.
