  • 1 to 2 oz. milk chocolate

  1. Pour semi-sweet chocolate bits into the top of a double boiler.
  2. Add 1 cup of sour cream and 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar to the chocolate and heat over simmering water, stirring until the chocolate is melted.
  3. Place the pan of sauce in cold water to cool, stirring occasionally.
  4. Set one of the flour tortillas on a serving plate and spread evenly with a third of the chocolate mixture.
  5. Cover with another tortilla, then spread another third of the sauce over it.
  6. Place a third tortilla on top, then spread the remaining sauce over it.
  7. Finish with the last tortilla on top, smoothing the layers as evenly as possible.

Tips & Substitutions

To enhance the flavor, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon to the chocolate mixture. For a lighter version, use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. If you prefer a crunch, try adding chopped nuts between the layers. Feel free to substitute the tortillas with whole wheat or spinach tortillas for a different twist. This Mexican Torte can also be served with a dollop of whipped cream for added richness.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Mexican Torte chilled or at room temperature, garnished with fresh berries or a drizzle of caramel sauce. It pairs beautifully with a side of Calabicita (Little Squash) for a balanced meal. For a more festive touch, consider serving it alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream to complement the rich chocolate.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. When reheating, use the microwave on low power to avoid melting the layers too much. Alternatively, you can let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before serving again to soften slightly without losing texture.
