Mildred's Salad combines crisp lettuces, Swiss cheese, green peas, bacon, and red onion in a creamy dressing, perfect for light, flavorful gatherings or family meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups torn lettuce
  • 2 cups torn romaine
  • 4 oz Swiss cheese, thin strips
  • 1 1/2 cups cooked green peas
  • 6 slices bacon, crisp-cooked, drained, crumbled
  • 1 medium red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, toss together torn lettuce and romaine.
  2. Top with Swiss cheese strips, cooked green peas, half of the crumbled bacon, and all the sliced red onion.
  3. In a separate bowl, stir together mayonnaise or salad dressing, sugar, and salt.
  4. Spoon the dressing mixture over the onion layer.
  5. Do not toss the salad at this stage.
  6. Cover and chill for 1 to 2 hours.
  7. Before serving, sprinkle with the remaining bacon and toss gently to combine.
