Delightful mincemeat turnovers feature flaky pastry filled with spiced mincemeat, perfect for festive gatherings or as a sweet snack with tea or coffee.

Ingredients

  • 3 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 cups mincemeat
  • 1 egg, well beaten

Instructions

  1. Combine cream cheese with softened butter until smooth.
  2. Stir in flour to form a dough.
  3. Cover and chill the dough for 1 hour.
  4. Roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness.
  5. Cut the dough into 2-inch rounds.
  6. Drop about 2 teaspoons of mincemeat onto the center of each round.
  7. Brush a little beaten egg around half of each round's edge.
  8. Fold the dough over the filling and seal the edges.
  9. Arrange the turnovers on an ungreased baking sheet and chill for 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  11. Brush turnovers lightly with melted butter.
  12. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes until golden.
  13. Cool completely before storing.
