Ingredients

  • 10 slices bread
  • 2 cups grated sharp cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • dash of onion salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Trim crusts from bread and tear into small pieces.
  2. Butter a 9-inch square pan or casserole dish.
  3. Layer bread and cheese alternately in the prepared dish, beginning with bread and ending with cheese.
  4. Combine milk, eggs, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and onion salt (if using). Beat well with a whisk.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the layered bread and cheese.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake the casserole for 1 hour until golden and set.
