Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 4 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 cup coconut flakes

Instructions

  1. Cream together the white sugar, brown sugar, and shortening.
  2. Add the beaten eggs, vanilla, and molasses; beat well.
  3. Sift together the flour, soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture.
  4. Stir in the coconut flakes.
  5. Shape into small balls and place on a greased cookie sheet about 3 inches apart.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12 to 15 minutes.
