Ingredients

  • 2 2/3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 pound butter
  • 1 tablespoon Crisco
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream together sugar, butter, and Crisco until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Sift dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt) together three times.
  4. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk to the egg mixture, starting and ending with dry ingredients, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Add vanilla and mix until combined.
  6. Pour batter into a prepared tube pan.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 325°F for about 1 hour or until the cake springs back when touched.
