- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed hash brown potatoes, melted margarine, cream of chicken soup, grated sharp Cheddar cheese, sour cream, salt, and grated onion. Mix well.
- Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish and spread the mixture evenly into it.
- In a small bowl, mix the remaining melted margarine with 2 cups crushed cornflakes.
- Sprinkle the crushed cornflake mixture evenly over the top of the potato mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until hot and bubbly.
