Ingredients

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Mix brown sugar, shortening, molasses, milk, and vinegar in a bowl.
  3. Stir in self-rising flour, ground ginger, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  4. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough onto a cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
  5. Press 3 raisins into each cookie to form eyes and mouth.
  6. Bake for 11 to 12 minutes until set.
