Ingredients

  • 3 cups cornbread (made with about 3 cups meal), crumbled
  • 2 pieces white bread, toasted and crumbled
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 ribs celery, chopped
  • about 4 cups chicken broth
  • about 1 cup broth from small turkey
  • 1/2 cup rice or potatoes
  • salt and pepper
  • 1/4 cup bacon grease

Instructions

  1. Cook the chopped onion and celery in part of the chicken broth until tender, then puree the mixture.
  2. Crumble the cornbread and toasted bread into a large bowl.
  3. Mix the crumbled bread with the pureed onion and celery mixture, rice or potatoes, and enough broth to create a fairly soupy mixture.
  4. Heat bacon grease in a shallow baking pan, add the dressing mixture, and bake at 400°F until the top is brown and the edges are crusty.
