Ingredients

  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup milk or yogurt

Instructions

  1. Mix together the flour, sugar, cloves, allspice, and margarine until crumbly.
  2. Take out 1 cup of these crumbs and reserve for topping.
  3. Dissolve the baking soda in the milk or yogurt.
  4. Add the milk or yogurt mixture to the crumb mixture, stirring until blended.
  5. Divide the batter evenly into two greased 8-inch pans.
  6. Top the batter in each pan with the reserved crumbs.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes.
