Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme
  • 1/8 tsp. white pepper
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. shortening
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Saute chopped mushrooms and chopped onion in butter until tender.
  3. Add thyme and white pepper, then set aside to cool slightly.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Cut in the shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Add milk to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  7. Fold in the mushroom mixture.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto a lightly greased baking sheet.
  9. Bake for about 12 minutes or until golden brown.
