Ingredients

  • 1 lb elk chunks
  • 1 large can tomatoes with liquid
  • 1 turnip
  • 1 parsnip
  • 1 onion
  • some cabbage
  • 2 garlic buttons
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, brown the elk chunks over medium heat if desired, then add chopped onion and garlic buttons and sauté until fragrant.
  2. Add the canned tomatoes with liquid to the pot.
  3. Peel and chop the turnip, parsnip, and rutabaga into bite-sized pieces.
  4. Chop the cabbage into strips.
  5. Add all the root vegetables and cabbage to the pot.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, garlic salt, onion salt, and seasoned salt or powder to taste.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 1.5 hours or until the meat and vegetables are tender.
  8. Serve hot, enjoying the rich flavors of this hearty stew.
