- Heat milk almost to boiling and stir in sugar, butter, and salt. Let cool to lukewarm.
- Add dissolved yeast mixture and stir in 3 cups of flour. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- Add ground cardamom and beaten eggs to the mixture.
- Mix candied fruit and raisins with 1/4 cup flour and add to the dough.
- Add just enough flour to make a soft dough that is not sticky, about 1 cup.
- Knead on a well-floured board for about 6 minutes.
- Cover and let rise until light, about 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 450°F.
- Grease two 9x5-inch loaf pans.
- Punch down the dough and divide in half. Place each half in a loaf pan.
- Let the dough rise until it doubles in size.
- Bake at 450°F for 10 minutes.
- Reduce oven temperature to 325°F and bake for an additional 50 minutes or until browned.
- Combine powdered sugar and milk; mix well and drizzle over cooled bread.
