Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 or 4 tablespoons flour
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 egg yolks
  • large hunk butter

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, flour, and cocoa in a black skillet.
  2. Add milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  3. Add egg yolks, vanilla, and butter; cook until thickened.
  4. Pour the filling into a baked pie shell.
  5. Using the whites of the 3 eggs, make a meringue and spread it over the pie.
  6. Bake or broil the pie until the meringue is golden brown.
