Ingredients

  • 4 cups plain flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons allspice
  • 3 teaspoons cocoa
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 large box raisins

Instructions

  1. Sift the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, soda, cinnamon, allspice, cocoa) 2 or 3 times.
  2. Mix in the buttermilk and margarine until well combined.
  3. Add raisins, leaving enough to cover the top of the cake batter in each pan.
  4. Pour the batter into three round cake pans.
  5. Bake at 325°F until the cakes are done (approximately 45 minutes).
