Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb. bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 (16 oz.) can whole tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 carrot, sliced
  • 1 c. cubed potatoes
  • 2 c. hot water
  • 1 doz. large clams, chopped with their juice
  • 1 tsp. thyme

Instructions

  1. Brown the chopped bacon with the chopped onion in a large pot.
  2. When the onion is soft, add the canned tomatoes, salt, pepper, sliced carrots, cubed potatoes, and hot water.
  3. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes and carrots are tender.
  4. Add the chopped clams with their juice and the thyme to the pot.
  5. Simmer the chowder for 5 minutes before serving.
